Amid the surge in Covid-19 cases, as many as 1,36,786 people in Dibrugarh district have been vaccinated till date. Addressing media persons in Dibrugarh on Thursday, deputy commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha said that though the situation in the district is alarming, the administration is prepared to combat the situation. He said that till date 21,455 people in the district has tested positive for Covid-19 while from April 2021, as many as 66 covid patients have died. The DC added that there were 335 beds for covid patients in 5 model hospitals of Dibrugarh district out of which 212 beds are occupied and 123 beds are vacant. He informed that the 100-bedded Covid Care Centre at Dikom will also be utilised for covid patients. Apart from that out of the 208 beds for covid patients in private hospitals in Dibrugarh, 130 beds are currently occupied while 78 beds are vacant. He said that in view of the surge in covid cases 13 containment zones have been notified in the district including 4 micro-containment zones. He further mentioned that 497 positive cases have been detected in the tea gardens of the district. Vaccination process has been ramped up in the tea gardens to check the spread.
Dibrugarh superintendent of police Prateek Thube who was present in the meeting said that strict action will be taken against violators of lockdown and curfew rules in the district. He appealed to everyone to not venture out of their homes unless necessary and strictly follow the rules. He warned that no leniency will be shown against people who violates odd-even vehicle rules.
