Opposing the construction of a toll plaza by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) on the Bogibeel bridge approach road on the south bank of the Brahmaputra in Dibrugarh, members of the All Assam Students’ Union (Aasu) staged a massive human chain protest in front of the toll plaza on Monday. The protesting students who belonged to the Aasu units of Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts blocked the approach road to the Bogibeel bridge (NH-52-B) at the toll plaza at Dhamalgaon. The toll plaza has been constructed by the NHAI at Dhamalgaon on the south bank approach road (Dibrugarh side) of the Bogibeel bridge.

The 4.94-km long Bogibeel bridge over the Brahmaputra connects Dibrugarh and Dhemaji districts in upper Assam. The double-decker bridge is also India’s longest rail-cum-road bridge. The Bogibeel bridge was inaugurated by prime minister Narendra Modi on December 25, 2018.
