The inauguration ceremony for the movement of air cargo through from Dibrugarh Airport was held on Tuesday. From now onwards shipments can be sent almost anywhere from Dibrugarh Airport with fast shipping and reliable delivery time. Air Cargo, being a trade facilitator, will contribute to the economic growth of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and other adjoining regions by carrying important shipments such as tea, fresh fish, flowers, fruits and other local high value and perishable goods all over the country and further to the other parts of the world.
Speaking on the occasion, Dibrugarh Airport Director Ramjee Awasthi said that Air Cargo will play a major role in boosting up of economy and in creation of employment opportunities. All the four schedules airlines operating from Dibrugarh Airport – Air India, Indigo, Vistara as well as Flybig will provide the services. The combined capacity of all airlines for daily movement is close to 10 tons per day.
“The full-fledged cargo terminal is also under development and is at various stages of permission at Dibrugarh Airport. Meanwhile, the Airport has been aiming to start offering movement of Air Cargo for the convenience of people and businesses and to support the development and growth of the region. Hence, consequent to getting approval from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, this service has been started from the passenger terminal building itself till the time Cargo Terminal becomes ready for operations,” Awasthi said.
Chief Airport Security Officer of Dibrugarh Airport Limainba and office bearers of different trade and industry associations of Dibrugarh, officials of Airport Authority, CISF and airlines also attended the event. Chairperson of Assam Tea Planters Association Nazrana Ahmed, President of Bhartiya Cha Parishad Nalin Khemani, President of Dibrugarh Traders Association Deepak Kayal who were present and expressed their happiness with the beginning of Air Cargo movement from Dibrugarh Airport.
