Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh principal cum chief superintendent Dr Sanjeeb Kakati had to be airlifted to Guwahati in an air ambulance on Saturday after his health condition deteriorated due to covid-19. He had tested positive for covid on September 12 and was undergoing treatment at the super speciality block of the medical college. 


AMCH superintendent Dr Prashanta Dihingia on Saturday said that initially it was planned to shift him to AIIMS, New Delhi but due to some complications, it was decided to shift him to the Gauhatii Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). 


An Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance carried him to Dibrugarh airport. After he reached LGBI airport, Guwahati, the local police provided a green corridor upto the Gauhatii Medical College and Hospital. He has been admitted at the covid ICU of the GMCH.
Earlier on Friday, state agriculture minister and guardian minister of Dibrugarh district Atul Bora had visited the AMCH to enquire about the health condition of Dr Kakati who has been on the forefront in the battle against Covid-19 after joining as principal of Assam Medical College in November 2020.
