The beautification of the RKB Road sidewalk in Dibrugarh was kick-started by local MLA Prasanta Phukan on Monday with the initiation of the tiles laying process on the footpath from Thana Chariali. Earlier on November 28, 2020, union minister of state Rameswar Teli had laid the foundation of the Rs 12 crore RKB road-cum-drainage project. The 2.48-km long RKB (Rohini Kanta Baruah) road from Thana Chariali to Boga Baba Mazhar (NH-37) is being built at a cost of Rs 12-crore under the City Infra Development Fund (CIDF) scheme of the state government.

As part of the project the existing road will be newly laid with footpaths on both sides. Earlier the footpath was mostly non-existent in several stretches of the road.
The drains on both sides will be 1.5 metre deep while the footpaths will be 2.5 metre wide. The surface of the footpaths will be covered with colourful synthetic tiles. There will be stainless steel railings all along the pathway. The entire stretch of the road will be covered under solar lights on both sides.
