The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) is organising a two-day waterways conclave in Dibrugarh on April 11 and 12 at the Chowkidinghee playground. The waterways conclave -2022 will focus on harnessing the domestic and international potential of waterways ecosystem in the Northeastern region of the country. The Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) is going to be the industry partner of the conclave Union minister of ports, shipping and waterways & AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal will inaugurate the conclave.IWAI vice chairman Jayant Singh said that the conclave is being organised in line with the goals of PM Gati Shakti National Masterplan and it aims to fast-track the development of multimodal projects in Northeast region for energising economic activities and enhance business opportunities and employment generation.The event will be attended by various stakeholders in the waterways ecosystem such as policy planners, senior government officials, domestic and international investors, sector experts, infrastructure players, vessel owners and operators, cruise tourism industry, representatives of major ports well as the governments of maritime states in India.”The waterways conclave will be attented by participants from the port sector, ship builders, vessel owners and operators, Indian chambers of commerce, container corporation of India, experts from World Bank and Asian Development Bank, foreign experts from Holland and Belgium, officials from the ministry of commerce, inland water transport and customs and all those connected with transport and logistics,” Singh informed.
