Dr Saikat Patra was today named as the chairman of the Dibrugarh Municipal Board while Ujjal Phukon was made the vice chairman. Both had recently won from their respective wards on BJP tickets. While Dr Saikat Patra won from ward no 14 while Phukon emerged winner from ward no 11.

In the 22-body Dibrugarh Municipal Board election the BJP had won 21 seats while the Congress could win only a solitary seat. Formed in 1873, the Dibrugarh Municipal Board is the oldest civic body of the state.
In ward no 1, BJP’s Gautam Dutta was the uncontested winner as the lone rival candidate had earlier withdrew his nomination. In ward no 2, BJP candidate Darshan Das defeated Bidyawati Sonowal Gogoi of the INC by a margin of 197 votes while in ward no 3, BJP’s Purnima Borah defeated INC’s Lakhijyoti Sonowal by 288 votes. In ward no 4, BJP’s Pranab Kalita defeated INC’s Bitul Talukdar by 772 votes while in ward no 5, BJP candidate Dibyajyoti Hazarika (Biju) defeated INC candidate Jina Hazarika by 953 votes. Similarly in ward no 6, saffron party candidate Hemalata Saikia Gogoi defeated INC’s Nipa Das by 1,633 votes while in ward no 7, BJP’s Binuma Das defeated Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) candidate Nilakhi Das by 509 votes. In ward no 8, BJP’s Ratan Paul defeated INC’s Ashish Chakraborty by 398 votes while in ward no 9, BJP candidate Shraban Kumar Das outgunned his INC rival by Amim Khan by 190 votes. 
The Congress had won the lone seat from ward no 10 where its candidate Samsun Nahar Hussain Ahmed defeated BJP candidate Rehan Ahmed by 130 votes. BJP’s Ujjal Phukan won form ward no 11 defeating independent candidate Rakesh Kumar Shah by 304 votes while in ward no 12, BJP’s Pompy Roy Choudhury won against the INC rival Moushumi Sarkar Dutta by a margin of 1,137 votes. In ward no 13, saffron party candidate Tapa Dey won against independent candidate Anjuna Das by 690 votes while in ward no 14, BJP’s Dr Saikat Patra defeated independent candidate Shyamal Das by 974 votes. BJP’s Sikha Chowdhury won big from ward no 15 defeating her nearest rival Kabita Borgohain Das of the INC by an impressive margin of 1,297 votes. In ward no 16, Mamun Gogoi Mitra of the BJP won against independent candidate Kusum Sharma by a slender margin of 177 votes. BJP’s Nirupa Dutta won from ward no 17 defeating INC candidate Jasmin Begum by a margin of 344 votes while in ward no 18 saffron party candidate Simanta Baruah won against his INC rival Ranjit Chetia by a margin of 381 votes. In ward no 19, BJP’s Munmun Das won against INC candidate Munmun Devi by a margin of 1,324 votes while in ward no 20, BJP candidate Dipali Dey won against her INC rival Simi Deb Choudhury by a margin of 927 votes. Saffron party candidate Bratish Kanti Das won from ward no 21 by defeating INC rival Sanjib Kuri by 649 votes while in ward no 22 BJP’s Sima Das won against INC candidate Asha (Safi) Rajak by a huge margin of 2,459 votes.
