Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan on Sunday took stock of work of the Rs 12-crore road-cum drain project currently underway at the RKB Road. Already one side of the drain has been completed with tiled footpath, stainless steel railings and solar lights. However the other side of the drain cum footpath infront of the Dibrugarh Police Station, head post office is still not completed. While laying the foundation stone of the project by Union Mos Rameswar Teli on August 28, 2020, Prasanta Phukan had mentioned that the project will be completed by November 2020.
Under the project the 2.48-km long RKB (Rohini Kanta Baruah) road from Thana Chariali to Boga Baba Mazhar (NH-37) will be built at a cost of Rs 12-crore under the City Infra Development Fund (CIDF) scheme of the state government. As part of the project the existing road will be newly laid with footpaths on both sides. Earlier the footpath was mostly non-existent in several stretches of the road. The drains on both sides will be 1.5 metre deep while the footpaths will be 2.5 metre wide. The surface of the footpaths will be covered with colourful synthetic tiles. There will be stainless steel railings all along the pathway. The entire stretch of the road will be covered under solar lights on both sides.
