To contain the spread of Covid-19, prohibitory orders were issued by the Tinsukia district administration on Thursday (June 24) under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), which bans gathering of five or more people at one place in the district. The order also prohibits taking out procession, dharna, rally in any form without permission of the district administration.
The order signed by Tinsukia deputy commissioner cum district magistrate Narsing Pawar stated, “To prevent Covid-19 as well as to maintain social distancing in the society as per government guidelines it has become necessary to restrict gathering of persons as well as any kind of procession and cultural events in entire Tinsukia district. The precautionary measures for effective prevention and containment of the virus within the district is needed. Whereas the Covid-19 health protocols are in place in the district, urgent meaures had to be taken to prevent the spread of Covid-19.”
Any person violating the order is liable to be prosecuted under section 188 of the IPC. However essential services such as electricity, water supply, medical, telecommunication and law and order enforcing agencies have been exempted from the purview of the order. People who are moving to vaccination centres have also been exempted from the order which will remain in force till further notice.
Tinsukia is one of the few districts where the covid cases are not showing a declining trend. In the last ten days till June 24, as many as 1,701 positive cases have been detected in the district. The district has till now recorded 21,454 covid cases and 304 deaths.
