The Assam Government announced today that a road in Guwahati will be named after Assam’s pride and Olympic Bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain.

Lovlina Borgohain was felicitated by Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at a function held in Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra today.

During the felicitation ceremony, the 23-year-old pugilist was awarded Rs 1 crore by the state government.

The Chief Minister proposed to appoint her as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Assam Police.

CM Sarma further announced Rs 1 lakh per month as a scholarship to Lovlina till the next Olympics as a mark of appreciation.

A boxing academy would also be set up at her native Sarupathar for Rs 25 crore.

The 23-year-old boxer returned with a bronze medal in the women’s 69kg welter-weight category.
