Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal attended the 17th biennial conference of the All Assam Lawyers’ Association (AALA) in Dibrugarh on Sunday.  Addressing the conference, the union minister lauded the contribution of lawyers in strengthening the foundations of democracy. 
“The contribution of lawyers in strengthening the judiciary is immense. The All Assam Lawyers’ Association has played a strong role since its inception to provide legal support to the people and service regarding various aspects of the law. The considerable expansion of legal education has increased the attraction among the youth towards this field. I sincerely appeal to the youth in the legal sector to play a strong role in nation building with dedicated service,” the union minister said.  Sonowal added that he had informed Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju about the All Assam Lawyers’ Association and their activities. The union minister urged members of AALA to prepare a report with the views and suggestions of experts and send it to the union law minister to further strengthen AALA. The union minister also urged the AALA to actively participate in the International Yoga Day to be held on June 21.  Former Judge of Gauhati High Court, Justice Biplab Kumar Sarma, Bar Council of India Executive Chairman Apurva Kumar Sarma, All Assam Lawyers’ Association president David Ledger, eminent lawyers Bijon Mahajan, Nekibur Zaman, senior journalist Syed Zarir Hussain and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
