The protest by the Dibrugarh University Post Graduate Students’ Union (DUPGSU) over the hiking of fees by the university authorities entered its eighth day on Tuesday. Members of the students’ body has been on a strike since the evening of August 23 after Dibrugarh University issued a notification announcing a hike in the annual fees for its Arts, Science and Commerce streams. Citing no change in the fees structure in last 12 years, the university authorities had hiked the annual fees for Arts and Commerce stream from Rs 4,489 to Rs 5982 and Science stream from Rs 6,913 to Rs 9,194 for the academic session 2022-23. The announcement was met with strong protests by the Dibrugarh University Post Graduate Students’ Union who demanded a immediate rollback of the decision.
