The ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashal’ (victory flame) to mark the golden jubilee of India’s success in liberating Bangladesh from Pakistan in 1971 was brought to Dibrugarh University on Thursday. Along the route locals paid respect and homage and thronged the route in impressive numbers underlining the patriotic fervour of the occasion.
Maj General SM Dhirendra Singh Kuswaha, GOC, 2 Mountain Division , Dinjan received the victory flame at the Rangghar auditorium in Dibrugarh University.
The ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashaal’, or the ‘victory flame’ symbolises India’s victory over Pakistan in 1971. It marks the 50th anniversary of the 1971 Indo-Pak War and the selfless sacrifice and dedication of the Indian Army personnel in protecting the sovereignty of the country.
Later, the victory flame was taken to the Dinjan Army camp.
