Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday launched Assam’s Covid vaccination drive for 15-18 age group children at the Oil India Higher Secondary School in Duliajan. Assam has set an estimate target of inoculating 20 lakh students between 15 and 18 years of age. The jabs will be given at all government and private school with more than 100 students. 
“I’m grateful to prime minister Narendra Modi for the next phase of India’s vaccination drive for children aged 15-18. From today we have started the vaccination for the age group between 15-18 years. Today 405 eligible school students are getting vaccinated in camps organised by Dibrugarh district administration and district health society in collaboration with Oil India Limited.. We are going to start a precautionary third dose of vaccination for our frontline warriors from January 10,” the chief minister said.
He added, “Senior citizens having co-morbidity and who have completed 9 months from their 2nd dose, will get 3rd dose of vaccine from January 10 onwards. We are also planning to complete both doses of vaccination of 15-18 age group within 2 months so that they can confidently appear in upcoming exams.”
When asked about Omicron variant, Sarma said, “The cases of Omicron virus are rising in Mumbai and Kolkata but there is less hospitalization. In Assam, the cases can rise but our health Infrastructure are equipped to deal with it.”
Union minister of state Rameswar Teli, state cabinet ministers Atul Bora, Bimal Borah, Sanjoy Kishan and Duliajan MLA Teras Gowala were present on the occasion.
