The 13th edition of the Dibrugarh Book Fair has drawn an overwhelming response from book lovers and enthusiasts in the past three days. With around 200 publishers and booksellers from across the country participating in the book fair held at the Chowkidinghee playground, visitors were treated to an extensive collection of books that spanned various genres and interests.

The book fair is showcasing a diverse range of literary works, from timeless classics to contemporary bestsellers, educational books to captivating children’s literature. A dedicated section for children’s literature has also been set up at the book fair to encourage young minds to explore the joys of reading.

The response from visitors in the past three days has left the organisers elated. Among the most sought-after books so far were children’s literature, popular English novels and works by acclaimed Assamese authors.

“Children’s books have been in high demand, with titles like ‘Harry Potter,’ ‘The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel Series,’ ‘The Virginia Mysteries Collection Books,’ ‘Famous Five,’ ‘Sherlock Holmes,’ ‘Nancy Drew Mystery Series,’ ‘Hardy Boys,’ and ‘Pennyroyal Academy Book Series’ attracting a significant number of young readers,” a book seller said.

It is not just children’s books that has garnered attention. Best-selling novels by renowned authors like Sidney Sheldon, Frederick Forsyth, Jeffrey Archer, Mario Puzo, Robert Ludlum, Stephen King, John Grisham, Ken Follett, Chetan Bhagat and Amish Tripathi were also in great demand among college students and youngsters.

Works of popular Assamese authors were also sought-after by book lovers. “The response for Assamese language books has been very encouraging. Books by renowned authors like Homen Borgohain, Mamoni Raisom Goswami, Anuradha Sarma Pujari, Rita Choudhury, Saurav Kumar Chaliha etc have found good response among the readers,” said a book seller.

The book fair have attracted enthusiastic visitors who expressed their delight at the wide range of books available. “I am delighted to see so many books under one roof. It is an excellent opportunity for readers like me to explore different genres and discover new authors. The atmosphere here is simply electric, and it’s always inspiring to witness the enthusiasm of people for reading,” a college student said.

Nirode Kumar Dutta, the organising secretary of the 13th Dibrugarh book fair, expressed his excitement at the overwhelming response. “We are thrilled to see the overwhelming response from the people of Dibrugarh. The aim of the book fair is to promote a reading culture and provide a platform for budding authors. From classic literature to contemporary fiction, and from children’s books to scholarly works, the book fair has something to cater to every reading taste. The book fair will remain open to the public from 11am to 8pm every day until December 19,” he stated.
