Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday visited the site of the grenade explosion at Tingrai market in upper Assam’s Digboi in Tinsukia district. Two persons were killed and two other were injured in Friday’s grenade blast in Digboi.

The chief minister directed the police to expedite the investigation and arrest the perpetrators of the blast.
Union minister Rameswar Teli, Digboi MLA Suren Phukan, Tinsukia MLA and cabinet minister Sanjay Kishan, Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma and Naharkatia MLA Taranga Gogoi accompanied the chief minister.

The chief minister strongly condemned the killing of the two innocent persons.

“We will take strong action against the persons who were behind the dastardly act. Peace will be maintained at any cost. We appealed to everybody to maintain peace. We would not tolerate any such activities,” Sarma said.

Later in a tweet the CM said
“This morning I visited Tingrai Market in Digboi to inspect the site of the blast on Friday (May 14). Have instructed Assam Police to ensure expeditious investigations and arrest of perpetrators.”

Later Sarma met the family members of Surajit Talukdar, one of the deceased in Friday’s blast. He announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh for the next of kin of each of the two deceased – Surajit Talukdar and Sanjit Singh.

“Today visited and met family members of late Surajit Talukdar who was killed in a dastardly grenade blast at Tingrai market in Digboi on Friday. Announced Rs 5 lakh one time financial assistant to next of kin of victims Talukdar and Sanjit Singh. Asked for best treatment to injured,” Sarma in a tweet said.
